012 - Dental Radiography Technology
Course Description
This course is accredited by the New Jersey Radiological Technology Board of Examiners and is designed to prepare students to expose radiographs as part of patient dental treatment. Topics include the fundamentals of dental radiology including the characteristics, production and utilization of x-rays in producing diagnostic radiographic images, biologic effects of radiation, radiation safety and protection, intra- and extra-oral exposure techniques, patient management and radiograph interpretation. The laboratory component includes all aspects of exposure, processing, interpretation and mounting of intra-oral dental radiographs. All radiographic exposures are made using manikins. Students will complete didactic, laboratory, and clinical requirements .
Upon successful completion of all didactic and clinical requirements, graduates are eligible to apply for and sit for the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) examination administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Successful completion and passing of the RHS examination is required to apply for licensure as a Dental Radiologic Technologist in New Jersey.

Eligibility to enroll:
- Has successfully completed a four-year course of study in a secondary school (high school)
- Candidates will need to supply official high school transcript, diploma, or equivalent such as GED or evaluated foreign education diploma
- Candidates must complete the following prior to beginning the course:

- Immunizations proof of Hep B vaccination or positive Hep B titer – uploaded to CastleBranch
