Course Description

Become familiar with the role of a municipal Subcode Official as it relates to designers, contractors and homeowners. Learn the procedures used in enforcement of the Uniform Construction Code: applications, violation notices and orders emergency situations, search warrants and barrier- free design requirements. Discuss and analyze techniques for conducting proper plan reviews and inspections. This course prepares Uniform Construction Code inspectors to become middle level supervisors of their respective trades. Subcode Officials learn administrative code and upon state licensure become responsible for plan review and releasing construction permits, issuing notices of violation and penalties.

The N.J. Uniform Construction Code requires candidates for licensure to complete specified educational programs. Licensing is based on a combination of education, experience and testing.

Call the Department of Community Affairs at 609-984-7834 for information on specific licensing requirements. Students must follow established prerequisites. A portion of student tuition may be refunded (subject to availability of State funding) provided students adhere to NJ state guidelines.
